WHAT IS TATTOO LIGHTENING/REMOVAL?

Saline solution is a common, effective approach to lightening tattoos. However, it is a slower process than other treatments, this method is popular because it is much safer than other removal procedures. Li-FT saline product has recently been developed to remove unwanted pigment from tattoos. This service is done using the same traditional equipment (machine, needles, etc) used in the tattooing process. However, instead of pigment, this saline solution is implanted into the skin. A sterile solution is tattooed into the skin to make the skin reject the pigment.

Microbladed eyebrows are one of the most tricky procedures to reverse, because of more aggressive pigment implant method and trauma caused by the cuts from the microblade. Not all clients who have had previous permanent makeup procedure are good to refresh clients. Sometimes their past color is too saturated to get them their desired look, whether it is softer, a different color or just light hair strokes. A saturated brow will not hold good color.

The procedure is basically an osmosis process and your body's natural healing process. As we go over your old tattoo the solution bonds to the pigment to lift pigment up to the surface. This method of removal decreases the chance of causing lasting damage to your melanocytes (color-producing skin cells), and permanently affecting the integrity of the skin. This type of removal is safer and has fewer risks of hypo or hyperpigmentation, as well as blistering and scarring than laser treatments.

It can benefit those who have had an old permanent cosmetic tattoo procedure, some mistakes as well as remove other blurred, discolored or misshaped eyebrows. The healing time is similar to initial pigmentation. Relatively non-traumatic to the client with little to no downtime. The pigment heals into the scab and as the scab sheds so does the pigment, revealing a lightened tattoo.

Clients should expect three to four procedures before they see some results. Clients must be realistic in their expectations, they should expect a lightening of the tattoo, not full removal. Many time it is only necessary to remove a small part of the color in order to give new eyebrows. This is why a consultation is necessary to determine what level or removal or lightening is best.

HOW IS THE PROCEDURE DONE?

The processes begin with a bit of anesthetic to keep you comfortable. The process of applying the solution can be as little as ten to forty minutes depending on the size of your tattoo. A crust will form after 5-10 days. The crust will then detach to reveal the results. The new skin will appear somewhat red / pink for a few weeks but will resume to normal when the dermis is fully healed. It is important to follow through with all of your recommended sessions to obtain the degree of removal you discussed with your technician. The treatment can be repeated 8 weeks apart until the desired result is achieved.

WHY SHOULD I CHOOSE IT OVER LASER TATTOO LIGHTENING?

Traditionally, this is just as effective as laser tattoo removal. The hypertonic saline inspires skin cells to release pigment and rise to the surface. It is a matter of how many sessions are needed to pull the pigment out completely, than whether or not it is possible. Whether your tattoo is 1 year old or 30 years old, saline removal will get it out. It does not permanently damage the tissue like lasers do, and is more affordable and less painful than laser treatments. Particularly if you plan to cover the area with a new tattoo once healed, saline removal will be in your best interest, as lasers can cause damage that prevents the skin from accepting/holding any new pigment.

HOW MANY PROCEDURES WILL I NEED TO OBTAIN LIGHTENING?

Some clients may only need to lighten their tattoo enough to have a coverup tattoo placed on top whereas others seek total removal. It is important that the practitioner has as much information about the tattoo you want removed or lightened as possible. Different pigments and techniques used by the original artist can greatly affect the removal outcome. It is also important to share how many times the tattoo has been retouched, or if it was previously covered by another tattoo. Your technician can give an estimate based on your specific tattoo and goals.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO ACHIEVE RESULTS?

Removal is a process that you need to commit to, and it takes time and patience. With each session results will build, however, large or saturated tattooed can take nine months or more to achieve full potential if you consider the sessions are spaced 8 weeks apart. An average eyebrow correction for both brows typically takes three to four sessions as an example. Bodily areas may need more considering size and saturation. We can only provide estimates based on theoretical information. Actual timeframes and results will vary based on how your body complies with the process.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR YOUR SERVICE

  • Remove any piercings obstructing the area to be treated.

  • Do not have electrolysis, laser hair removal, or any waxing done in the area within 1 week prior in case of burning/irritation.

  • Minimize sun exposure and avoid tanning beds/booths for 2 weeks prior (we cannot work on sunburnt skin).

  • Do not have botox or fillers done within 6” of the area within 2 weeks prior.

  • Do not schedule any spa-grade peels within 6 weeks prior.

DOES IT HURT?

Most clients find that it causes a similar discomfort to getting the tattoo in the first place. But prior to the procedure, you’ll be numbed with a topical cream for maximum comfort. While you may see some blood, this is normal and necessary for creating the “controlled scab.” The solution also contains pure aloe vera gel to calm the skin throughout the service

WHAT DOES IT COST?

Removal usually costs more than the initial tattoo. We determine how long each session will take based on the size, age, density of the tattoo and a few other factors. Based on the information we gather from you during an in-person analysis of the tattooed skin, we can estimate the number of sessions needed. Your tattoo removal will be customized specifically for your tattoo and your goals.

WHAT DOES THE AFTERCARE CONSIST OF?

1. KEEP AREA CLEAN and open to the air. Do not cover with a Band-Aid or anything else, leave open to air. Air/oxygen provides good and faster healing. You should not be touching the area at all but if you find yourself needing to please make sure your hands are exceptionally clean.

2. CLEAN BY BLOTTING AREA with saline 3 to 4 times a day using a paper towel or gauze. NO ICE.

3. DO NOT SOAK the treated area in water. You can shower as normal but keep the area out of the shower spray the best you can and do not let the area stay wet for more than a few minutes. It is best to keep it dry but if you do get it wet gently pat dry.

4. NO BATHING, SWIMMING, SAUNAS, HOT TUBS, TANNING, OR EXERCISE. NO EXCEPTIONS.

5. DO NOT disrupt the scabbing process (i.e. no picking, scratching, etc.) All scabbing needs to fall off naturally. If you force or pick a scab off you will disrupt the process and possibly cause scarring. It is critical to keep the scabs on as long as possible to achieve optimum results.

6. TREAT AREA WITH TLC. DO NOT DO ANYTHING AT ALL THAT COULD CAUSE ISSUES OR PROBLEMS TO THE TREATED AREA.

7. ONCE ALL SCABBING HAS NATURALLY FALLEN OFF, apply one drop Vitamin E Oil 3 to 4 times throughout the day for a minimum of 4 weeks, or until next lightening session. DO NOT start applying the Vitamin E oil UNTIL all scabbing has naturally and completely fallen off. It is our goal to keep the area as dry as possible until all scabs have naturally fallen off.

IMPORTANT

It is important to the process and integrity of the skin that 8 full weeks of healing take place before another lightening session can be done. No exceptions Lightening and/or removing unwanted pigment is a long process and patience is required. This is true whether you are choosing a lightening product service or laser. Please be patient and give the process a fair chance to work. Expect visible and wanted results in 2 to 5 sessions. How many sessions needed will depend on how saturated the pigment is, how deep it was implanted and how much needs to be removed for the desired result. In many cases only a percentage of the pigment needs to be lightened/removed and then we can continue the correction process by color correcting or color shifting. In those cases where we have pigment misplaced or in an unwanted area, color correcting will not be an option and removing as much of the pigment as possible will be our ultimate goal. Results cannot be foreseen, predicted or guaranteed. If you have any questions or concerns please call us. If at any time, you have any green or yellow puss in the area of the removal, or any concerns at all during the healing process please call us at 203-444-6303
