WHAT IS SCALP MICROPIGMENTATION

SMP stands for Scalp Micro Pigmentation (or Micro Scalp Pigmentation), which deposits medical grade pigment into the upper dermal layer of the skin.

SMP is an innovative, non-surgical hair loss solution, performed at our studio that improves the visual density for those with little to no hair, and can also create a thickening effect.

Whether you’re affected by pattern baldness, scalp scarring or just patchy, thinning hair, Scalp Micropigmentation can restore receded hairlines, thicken remaining hair, camouflage hair transplant scars and create the look of a full head of close-cropped / buzz-cut hair.

Suitable for men and women, Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP), creates the appearance of tiny hair by carefully and meticulously applying microdots of specialized pigment amongst your existing hair to restore the appearance of a full head of natural-looking hair effect.

We used gamma sterilized ink and needless. Together we will carefully measure and approve each design with you before any pigment is applied. For example, you may wish for a very low defined hairline, but we often advise starting with a softer natural look, taking into account your facial features and age appropriateness.

Patients suffering with autoimmune conditions such as scarring alopecia, alopecia areata or trauma and burn scars can also benefit from SMP treatment.

Together with your artist you can design and create a hairline that suits you as an individual. This is a very important part of the process and we always recommend a natural-looking hairline over a ‘fashionable’ style.

DOES THE COLOUR FADE WITH TIME?

Yes. We use only the highest standard of pigments, designed specifically for Scalp Micropigmentation. With time and sun exposure the pigment can lighten and it may be necessary to have a touch-up treatment to bring the appearance back to its optimal best.

Following your procedure, it is important to take care of the treated area. We recommend using a good quality sun block and a hat. This will help to ensure your SMP stays looking as it was originally intended, and help protect you from harmful UV rays.

How many sessions of Scalp Micropigmentation will I need?

The number of sessions of Scalp Micropigmentation you will need will depend on a few factors.

Factors such as the size of the area being treated, your existing hair density and your desired result play a big part.  Your skin type also plays a part, for example oily skin and alopecia can mean that you will need an additional session.

In most cases, 2-4 sessions are required to achieve optimal results. The first two sessions are building the density and the third session completes the feathering and definition aspect of the procedure. We recommend 10-14 days between sessions to allow for adequate healing and pigment settlement.

Aftercare is also key! If you don’t follow the aftercare then you will experience poor retention / results.

I always recommend planning for 4 sessions. I would much rather you did that than plan for 3 and then the additional treatment is an unexpected shock.

DOES IT HURT?

Some points on the scalp may be more sensitive than others. For example, you may feel SMP more in the temple areas than the crown area. Most clients remark they feel little to no real discomfort during the entire procedure.
